S*Nekayahs Abyssinian´s

This is a brief summary in English of my web pages that mainly are about the Abyssinian cat, my cattery and my cats. My name is Kristin Stenmark and I breed Abyssinians in a small scale (approximately one litter a year) under the prefix Nekayahs since 1989. I register them in SVERAK, which is associated with the European cat organisation FIFe.

About the Abyssinian cat

The most striking and special about the Abyssinian is the unique ticked coat. Each coat hair is banded with darker bands against the lighter foundation colour. An expression that is usually referred to as the "Aby-look" and means a combination of wildness and kindness.

Like all cats, and perhaps in an even higher degree than most other breeds, the Abyssinian is a great personality and individualist. Most of them are unusually quick-witted, alert and full of initiative. They often learn how to open doors, cupboards and drawers. They work out how they are going to get out of, onto or into something when they need to. Often it is food that is tempting them, for the Aby generally has a good appetite. For the same reason the breed has a tendency to thievishness, even though they really are very teachable and very well know what is right and wrong.

The prefix Nekayahs comes from an English 19th century novel about an Abyssinian princess - Nekayah - and her brother.

All my cats have access to the whole of my home all the time. None of them live in secluded rooms or outdoor cages. When I eat they sit on the kitchen table, when I watch TV they lie beside me on the sofa and at night we all crowd together in the bed.

My most important missions as a breeder is to breed sound, beautiful and, above all, nice cats. As the childhood is the most important period in a human's life, so the "kittenhood" is in a cat's life. By having the kittens with me all the time and by keeping the breeding at a small scale I find time to pay attention to each individual.

At the moment my cattery includes five cats. They are the neuters Mira (Blue), Nelly (Sorrel) and Izzi (Sorrel), the following breeding cats:
